PostSubject: Is there room for cruiserweights/ light heavyweights anymore?   Is there room for cruiserweights/ light heavyweights anymore? EmptyMon Aug 11, 2008 12:33 pm

Is there any room in this industry for a light heavyweight/ cruiser weight. My questions is simple. With many of the stars on the WWE roster built the same. Look the same with the same move set. Is there any chance of a smaller guy actually succeeding?

Over the past few years the only wrestler to reach the dizzy heights of greatness is HBK. But he first had his break over 10 years ago. Since then only rey mysterio who flopped as champion, and CM Punk who is being used in the same fashion as rey was…….These two are the only two given a big opportunity.

If you look at the FCW roster. All the roster is the same. 20 bodybuilders with 3 cruiserweights. Is there actually room for these wrestlers anymore? Or is wrestling truly a big mans sport?

There will always be room for talented wrestlers no matter their size, it's just that Vince will rarely give them a big push as he personally prefers larger guys despite the Wellness policy which we all know is flawed anyway. I think if they moved all the cruiserweights to ECW, and dropped the larger guys like Mark Henry, then that show would be very interesting to watch and Vince isn't likely to interfere with it too much either. But they could also work well in the heavyweight divisions, it's all about how you are booked, if you are booked weakly then the fans aren't going to believe in you, simple as that.

But with such talented workers as moore being released, and noble/gibson not being given the chance. Then what hopes do any otheres have. After a few months of sydal will he also be doomed to being is squash matches.

Once CM Punk loses the title will he be given the chance again or will he be in the midcard for the rest of his life.

Talented guys such as santino or carlito. Both better than average wrestler. Better than most big guys anyway. Brilliant on the mics don't get a shot.

There are 5 hours of TV time to fill so there "should" be room, ECW should be the spot monkey show. That way you keep bigger cross section of the fans happy. I can't see why they don't do it to be honest.

I don't think you can say the only small guy to make it to the top in the last 10yrs is HBK though, Jericho and edge are hardly massive, nor is either hardy boy.

Noble is apparently getting a run with Regal, that's not bad IMO.

CM Punk is world champion after only two years, so I think its a bit unfair to judge what they do with him at the moment concerning the main event, there testing the water with him.

i dont see why they dont bring back the cruiserweight title and have it on ECW, it would do the show no harm at all.

Brian Kendrick
Evan Bourne
Jimmy Wang Yang
Jamie Noble
Paul London (if hes still there?)
Rey Mysterio

Im sure theres others i just cant think atm, but theres some very decent cruisers in the WWE

there is obviously room , ecw and the mid card...But no room in the main event scene for many, guys like punk though, if they become the future there will always be an "in" for the most talented of smaller guys, as a realistic match can take place and entertain people. World heavyweight title though, suggests you shouldnt be too small if you hold it, guys that are punk/edge size can get away with it, but mysterio etc, well no one liked that, not even live crowds would cheer somtimes.

Well yeah obviously the likes of Mysterio aren't going to be taken seriously as champ because of how ridiculously small he is, plus his style doesn't really mix well with most heavyweights and the lesson should be learned that cruiserweights will work better with other guys their size or slightly bigger like Regal or Benjamin.

WWE has always wanted to push Mysterio in the heavyweight division from the moment he debuted, and rather than build the cruiserweight division around him, they used it as a stepping stone for him to face the likes of the Big Show. If they keep the cruiserweights and heavyweights seperate, then the cruiser division could actually mean something in WWE for a change, more resembling the WCW division in the 90s. But the seperation must be adhered to, and not Jamie Noble thrown in the next time JBL's looking for a squash match.

If you bring another title to ECW it would mean less than the divas title, considering the fact that the ECW title is a midcard belt.

nope, thats my point.

it made no sense. it would be like flabby v winning crusierweight title.

or santino winning divas title Laughing

they may aswell shove some spot monkeys on there, and re instate hardcore belt. Have them jumping about and using weapons that are low risk, like canes and chairshots.

.

is that how the match could play out?

I thought it was a winning team takes all, not person who makes the tag.

its the womens title anyway, im just saying its as silly as he is a man.

men shouldnt win womens belts, americans shouldnt win european belts, in boxing itd make no sense would it if the brittish champ was mexican.

and if they win those belts hel probably pick the wrong one up while celebrating anyway

Adamle made it sound as if the person who got the tag got the belt. I know it sounds dumb, but i've seen dumber from wrestling.

that, coupled with the fact that WWE made Chyna the intercontinental Champion, lead me to believe the winning tag got both belts.

That really that much of a strech?

Yeah that's their idea of comedy gold Rolling Eyes Plus the womens division is the only one in which Santino will look like a competent wrestler in comparison.
